I researched album covers to see what aspects reoccur through genres creating convention, I noticed the following:

Pop

Bright colours -> appeal to younger generation -> for both genders

Picture of the artist -> selling the person

Artist looks happy -> acceptance of parents buying the cd for their kids

Represent society -> tokenism and equal genders

Rock

Abstract images

No band members -> differentiating from pop

Band name / logo

Dark colours -> connotations of death

Iconography -> skulls, crosses,roses

Mellow colours -> browns/yellows

No picture of the artist on the cover

Artistic / credits listener

Empty backgrounds -> Fields/ Galaxy / Block colour

Draws focus to band name or one image
